Equipment and gear
It may sound strange to you, but there is more to this sport than just running! Especially in the uphill phases, running is alternated with walking, especially in the steeper sections, and poles can be an invaluable aid.
It is essential to have the right equipment: specific shoes (remember, they have to be comfortable, or you'll feel the pain!), technical clothing, a sling or trail backpack to store water supplies, energy bars and layered clothing. If the distance to be travelled is long, always carry a lightweight warm jacket and an anorak, in case of rain and wind.
Last, but not least, remember your first aid equipment: for instance, a thermal blanket can be indispensable in emergency situations. A spirit of adaptation and self-sufficiency are basic requirements for practising this discipline.
One thing is for sure: trail running is not just a sport, it is a way of life that will lead you to experience that secret pleasure inherent in exerting yourself in harmony and in total connection with nature and the environment.
