Volano
Taking a stroll amid vineyards and art treasures in Volano, the centre of Marzemino winemaking
Once crossed by the imperial way in the heart of Valle Lagarina, Volano is located on the left bank of the River Adige, at about 4 km North of Rovereto. The historic town-centre is built on a terrace on the valley edge and the main street is lined on both sides by cluster of houses highlighting the so-called "cort", picturesque stone-flagged courtyards, outside stairs and balconies featured by the local houses. The valley floor and lowest hills are covered with thick vineyards and fruit orchards, especially apples. Here renowned Marzemino wine is manufactured, which is one of the most famous in the area, and used to be one of the favourites of the Austrian Imperial Family.
One of the major attractions of this little town is the Gothic Church of San Rocco, which houses frescoes dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.
