Brentonico Botanical Gardens
A garden to understand the plants of Trentino
The Brentonico Botanical Gardens lying at 690 metres a.s.l. opened on 26 June 2005 in an outstandingly beautiful panoramic setting. They cover an area of over 3500 sq m in front of the magnificent Palazzo Eccheli Baisi.
The gardens are divided into two areas:
- the Renaissance-style garden (Orto dei Semplici)
- the natural landscape area
The "Orto dei Semplici" is divided into three terraces featuring plants grown in twelve symmetrical, geometrically shaped beds constructed of metal and bricks, each on a different theme. The focus is primarily on indigenous plant species that grow wild on the Monte Baldo mountain range.
In the natural landscape area (botanical garden) micro-environments have been recreated artificially to give the visitor the feeling of being in a more natural environment. Here the species have been divided according to the environment and altitude at which they grow. All the plants cultivated in this area grow wild on Monte Baldo.
