Lake Caldonazzo - A water sports paradise
A holiday between sport and relaxation for the whole family
- A ride along the cycle path
- Have a Picnic on the shores of the lake
- Give a try to stand-up paddle boarding
Location
We are in Valsugana, about twenty kilometers from Trento, in the heart of Trentino: Lake Caldonazzo, from which river Brenta originates, is the largest lake entirely belonging to Trentino and historically a destination for water sports lovers. It is located next to the town of the same name, which has 3,000 inhabitants and stands at about 560 meters of altitude.
What to do
Lake Caldonazzo is for you if you dream of a summer vacation on the move: indeed, thanks to the water temperature of 20-24 degrees, here you can water ski (it is the only lake in the entire region where it is allowed), sail, canoe, dive, swim, fish and windsurf, but also trek and ride a mountain bike on its surrounding trails. If you love total relaxation, on the shores of the lake you will find both free beaches and bathing establishments with play areas, suitable for the whole family.
Among the most interesting events to attend, we mention the famous Palio dei Draghi, a dragon boat (dragon-shaped vessels) competition that every summer takes place on these waters in August.
In both summer and winter, we also recommend a visit to the little town of the same name, with its Magnifica Corte Trapp, a noble residence dating back to the eleventh century, which today hosts events and a horseback riding school. Caldonazzo is also home to the Trentino Book Festival, which takes place every year in June.
How to get there
You can get to Lake Caldonazzo by car, traveling along National road 47 to the Pergine Valsugana exit, then continuing on Provincial Road 1 for 5 kilometers. Or, by train from Trento take the regional line to Bassano del Grappa and get off at Calceranica. If you opt for the bus, always starting from Trento, you can take line 401 towards Castello Tesino: after about 40 minutes of travel, get off at the Valcanover - Pizzeria Happy Days stop, right on the lake. Many hotels, campsites and restaurants open both in summer and in winter will be waiting for you.
