Spormaggiore
A holiday surrounded by nature, just a few minutes away from the Paganella skiing district
The town of Spormaggiore is located just a few minutes away from the San Michele all'Adige exit on the A22 Brenner motorway, overlooking the striking terrace of the Val di Non valley. Castel Belfort, Corte Franca and the tiny Church of St Vigilio, harking back to the Middle Ages, are to be found in the area too.
As a proof of continuity with the past, and of a special pride in its ancient origins, the town has just completed an all-important project aimed to refurbish the Corte Franca - a century-old feudal home, which belonged to leading families of the Tyrol area and now hosts the offices of the bear-dedicated Casa of the Adamello Brenta Nature Reserve. Many activities for visitors to the Casa dell'Orso and Scuola faunistica are organised and presented here.
Castel Belfort is a 14th century manor house you can see from the road to Andalo. Massive refurbishing works have also been carried out on the tiny Gothic Church of St Vigilio, with its numerous frescos and golden carving wooden works, which has been recognized a national monument.
Lots of tours and hikes, Alpine and mountain-bike trails can be accessed from here. The ski-lifts of the Paganella skiing district, Lake Tovel and the Sanctuary of St Romedio in Val di Non are also just a short distance away.
