Sarnonico-Passo Mendola
A well-equipped tourist and sport centre, Sarnonico features the right climate for holidays
Located on the splendid Alta Anaunia panoramic plateau at the edge of thick pine woods with walker-friendly paths, the town is a holiday centre blessed by dry climate and sunny position. A lovely tree-lined lane leads up to the Parrocchiale di S. Lorenzo church, which is slightly isolated. Another beautiful church is the chiesa di S. Maria, which features a built-in bell tower and two rows of three-mullioned windows. The noble Morenburg family (16th century) left behind the Morenburg Castle and the superbly frescoed Morenburg Palace, the latter currently headquartering the Town Hall. Other note-worthy buildings include Casa Malench, Casa Ghezzi, Casa Covi.
Sarnonico is a tourist and sport centre. The Dolomiti Golf Club 18-hole course is considered one of the most beautiful courses in the entire Alpine area. It offers splendid views on the Dolomiti di Brenta and on the Maddalene chain.
It also features camping areas and a well-equipped sport centre with tennis, soccer, volleyball and basketball pitches, and a number of other sport facilities.
In the area surrounding the town-centre you can find numerous walking trails, such as the Margherita path and the route leading to Rio Novella - which winds past age-old mills - as well as panoramic tours featuring views on the Dolomiti di Brenta mountains.
Casa Bolego hosts the sapori e colori d'autunno (Autumn flavours and colours) festival celebrating typical local products and cuisine.
