Peio (Pejo)
Peaceful holidays surrounded by the beauty of the Stelvio National Park
Located in a small valley hidden within the Ortles-Cevedale - the heart of the Stelvio National Park - Peio is surrounded by some of the highest peaks of Trentino: Cevedale (3764 m.), Palon de la Mare (3703 m.), Vioz (3644 m.) and San Matteo (3684 m.). Here visitors enjoy an array of ski-runs with different difficulty levels. Never overcrowded, the ski-runs are provided with both ski schools and expert skiing teachers for children.
This family-friendly resort also provides other alternatives for tourists, such as snowshoe walks both by day and by night towards various Alpine summer pastures. The skiing districts of Marilleva-Folgarida are just a few minutes' drive away, and visitors can also reach the Passo del Tonale and Presena passes with a half hour drive.
Iron used to be quarried from the mountains of the area. The healthy, prized waters of Fonti di Peio springs are used in its spa - which is open in the winter as well - to treat breathing, circulatory, rheumatic and skin diseases, as well as to provide beauty treatments. The town's wellness centre and pool - just like its spa - are open until late so that guests may enjoy a beneficial sauna or massage after a day spent hiking or skiing.
The local museum dedicated to the Great War is also worth a visit.
