Castel Romano
The fascinating Castel Romano ruins are surro unded by legends and mysterie.
Castel Romano was built in the 12th century to defend the road connecting the Brescia area with the Giudicarie. The majestic rectangular tower, overlooking the valley of the Chiese river, is proof of how important a structure could be from the strategic point of view. It slowly fell to ruin after the Lodron counts transferred their power to other areas of Trentino, Austria and Bavaria.
Unfortunately, of the numerous frescoes that covered the residential halls only one has survived: a 15th century soldiers' battle. In any case, the accurately refurbished castle still spreads considerable charm. Maybe because of the legends that surround it, the most popular of which tells that countess Dina Lodron would lure the most handsome young men of the reign to the castle and then kill them. Fortunately, justice was restored by a priest who freed the community from the spell by killing the countess.
