Laghi di Valbona
A pleasant destination for nature hikes
Located on the southern branch of Brenta, the lakes of Valbona - typically round-shaped like all glacial basins - are a pleasant destination for hikes.
These small lakes are located high up in the mountains and are surrounded by a splendid rocky amphitheatre. They include Lake Valbona Inferiore (2,046 m a.s.l.) and Lake Valbona Medio (2,195 m a.s.l.), which are separated from the largest lake, Lake Valbona Superiore, by a grassy meadow. To reach the lakes from Tione, take the paved road to Zeller area and park there. Then take the forest road from the open square facing the former Alpine mountain-hut, and carry on until you reach Malga Cengledino (1,667 m a.s.l.) on the outskirts of the woods. A path will take you to the Bait dei Cacciatori, where you will be able to catch a glimpse of the peaks surrounding the lakes. The first peak can be reached by travelling the steep ridge. You will get to the second, smaller lake - overlooked by the Crepèr de la Stracciola - approximately 20 minutes later.
