Trentino is naturally sporty. With mountains and lakes at every doorstep, it's easy to feel inspired to get moving. This region attracts both great champions and enthusiasts alike who come to enjoy an active holiday in the area.

"We are a province suitable for an unlimited number of sports disciplines”, says Maurizio Rossini, CEO of Trentino Marketing, “thanks to high-level infrastructures and quality of services and all this is also certified in the annual ranking of the Sole 24 Ore, according to which Trento is in first place for sportsmanship index in Italy. In the space of 10 years, Trento has, in fact, won the title of “sportiest province in Italy” for 4 times”.

THE EVENTS

The 3 Tre of Madonna di Campiglio will stage the slalom of the Audi Fis Ski World Cup circuit of alpine skiing on January 8, 2025. The competition among the top slalom skiers will occur at night on the Canalone Miramonti, creating a spectacular show under the stars with the Brenta Dolomites in view.

For the first time, in 2025, the Passo San Pellegrino will host the Ski Cross World Cup races on February 8 and 9.

At the beginning of January, the Alta Val di Non will host the Ciaspolada, the main event at the European level for snowshoe lovers, attracting over six thousand participants on average between competitors and amateurs.

Trentino will land a prestigious position in the Nordic skiing discipline between January and February. It starts with the Tour de Ski at home in Val di Fiemme - The Olympic venue in the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Milan Cortina 2026 - and the spectacular and highly followed final climb of Alpe del Cermis. Nordic skiing in Italy changed with the creation of the Marcialonga di Fiemme e di Fassa, one of the most anticipated mass events for narrow ski enthusiasts: seventy kilometres of classic technique between Moena and Cavalese. Val di Fiemme also hosts the Skiri Trophy XCountry, an international event dedicated to Nordic skiing. In contrast, those of international Alpine skiing meet in Folgaria to give life to the Alpe Cimbra Children Cup, heir to over 50 editions of the legendary "Trofeo Topolino".

From January to April, the Trentino mountains, including the Brenta Dolomites, Lagorai, and Fassa Dolomites, serve as a captivating backdrop for significant ski mountaineering events, such as the Sellaronda Ski Marathon.

THE CHAMPIONS

Thanks to excellently groomed slopes, quality facilities, and services, Trentino remains attractive to the national teams of the most popular winter sports. The Norway Ski Team has chosen the snows of Paganella for several years now, while the USA Ski Team trains on the snows of Alpe Cimbra. Thanks to the “Piste Azzurre” project, the Italian National Team has chosen the snows of Val di Fassa to train the men's and women's downhill, giant slalom and slalom teams. The Altopiano di Pinè hosts the retreats and training of the Italian national long-track skating and curling teams in the federal structure in Cembra, where the Beijing 2022 Olympic champion Amos Mosaner grew up.

2026 MILAN WINTER OLYMPICS AND PARA-OLYMPICS

With sixty races and one hundred and eighty medals up for grabs, over 30 per cent of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Val di Fiemme in Trentino. During the Winter Games of 2026, Val di Fiemme will play a significant role in hosting Cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and biathlon.

Over 1.5 million visitors are expected at the Olympic locations, and the global television audience promises to exceed 2 billion viewers during the over 160 hours of image production.

Val di Fiemme was chosen for its expertise in organising significant sports events. The Alpine cradle of cross-country skiing has given life over the years to three editions of the Nordic Ski World Championships (1991, 2003, 2013), hosting a total of more than 400 World Cup races and two editions of the Ski Roll World Championships, the summer version of cross-country skiing, in 2021 and in September 2024. With the assignment of the 2026 Olympics, Val di Fiemme becomes the only location in the Nordic Skiing circuit, together with Oslo and Sapporo, to have hosted the most important events of the white circus: Olympics, World Championships and World Cup!
