A JOURNEY THROUGH THE MOST SPECTACULAR ALPINE BLOOMS
From April to June, the northern Italian region of Trentino bursts into bloom, offering breathtaking scenic walks and hiking adventures amidst its stunning landscapes. Wander through local orchards on the new flower walks of Alta Valsugana, explore vibrant wild meadows in Monte Casale, and even indulge in leisurely picnics and winery tours, as part of a curated selection of seasonal spring events.
Spring blossoms in Alta Valsugana: A spectacle of colours
In Alta Valsugana, explore local orchards, enjoy a panoramic view of the white-flowered plain from Castel Pergine on Colle del Tegazzo, and even visit the area of Susà (Pergine) for one of the most scenic spots to admire cherry blossoms. Over in the Caldonazzo plain, blooming apple trees create a stunning landscape and transform the area into a sea of delicate white and pink hues.
Another floral highlight is the Crocus, a native mountain flower of Trentino. Depending on the species, it blooms in early spring or autumn, and thrives in the mild temperatures of the changing seasons. One of the best places to witness this colorful display is the Celado Plateau in the Tesino region.
Between Vallagarina and Lake Garda, the area of Parco Naturale Locale del Monte Baldo has been famous amongst European botanists since the Middle Ages, known for its extraordinary biodiversity of preglacial endemic species. In the sixteenth-century, Doctor Giovanni Battista Olivi defined the Monte Baldo Mountain range as the “Hortus Italiae”, or “Garden of Italy”, due to its immense botanical diversity.
Spot the rare and distinctive plant species of Trentino, known as “baldensis”, which is an acknowledgment of their uniqueness. Lilies, gentians, orchids, globeflowers and silvery cranesbill burst into bloom between May and June, decorating the meadows of the region with vibrant colours. To see these blooms, walk along the trails that make up the Malghe Baldo Flower Trekking Path which were specifically designed to teach people about the area’s biodiversity through sustainable tourism.
The most spectacular blooms can be seen by walking from the Graziani Mountain Hut towards Malga Campo, Bocca Paltrane to reach the Malga Campei Mountain Hut in Val Paròl where great expanses of globeflowers lie. As the last snow melts, carpets of snowdrops surround the path from Polsa di Brentonico towards Malga Susine, Bocca d'Ardole and the WWI sites of nearby Corno della Paura. The trail climbs from Mori in Vallagarina to Brentonico, winding its way through broad leaf woods and passing through the blossoming meadows of Brentonico and Dos Robiòn, offering a viewpoint of the entire plateau.

Monte Casale
Monte Casale offers the best views in the Valle delle Terme di Comano. From the top of the peak, high meadows overlook the southern slope of the Italian Alps in Brenta. Nature springs to life each May as the blooming flowers transform the landscapes into a colourful fresco as the hues and delicate fragrances of floral species come together. The extensive green meadow at the summit is sprinkled with crocuses, mountain tulips, orchids, peonies, gentians, lilies, alpenrose, yellow archangel, as well as woodruff, lingonberry, mountain arnica, wild heather and wild spinach.
Dive into a sea of flowers
The spring transition occurs early in Valle di Non, known as the valley of apples, with the landscape dramatically changing from lush green to a sea of white and pale pink blossoms ahead of the season. The apple trees then bloom at the end of April, making it the perfect time to discover the valley and its small, historic villages which can be reached by the numerous hiking and cycling trails that pass through the expanses of apple orchards.
The Alpine rhododendron (Rhododendron ferrugineum), also known as the “Rose of the Alps”, is an evergreen shrub that grows throughout the Alpine region, marking the transition between forests and open meadows. It thrives both in the undergrowth and on mountain slopes above the tree line, even growing at altitudes that exceed 2,000 meters. Its blooming period usually occurs in late June, when it becomes covered in clusters of vibrant fuchsia flowers. Around Malga Bordolona in Val di Non, numerous rhododendrons can be seen in full bloom.
Trentino also offers a selection of floral-focussed events including the “Road of Apples and Flavours” in Val di Non and Val di Sole, which includes a programme of events and initiatives designed for flower and nature lovers. “Aprile dolce fiorire”, or “Sweet April blossoms”, also has a full calendar of events from 11 April to 4 May 2025, including themed picnics with recipes made from flowers and herbs, tours to admire the blossoms up close, winery and distillery visits and a guided excursions to the Sanctuary of San Romedio – one of the most sacred monuments in Europe.

Passo Lavazè
Passo Lavazè in Val di Fiemme is a great place to admire wild and fragrant orchids such as Nigritella Rubra and Nigritella Nigra which give off a beautiful scent of vanilla and chocolate, as well as Edelweiss.
In June, the Alpenrose (Rhododendron hirsutum) blooms on Corno Bianco and can be recognised by its hairy leaves, whilst on Corno Nero, the Alpenrose (Rhododendron ferrugineum) blooms with shiny and hairless leaves. Green thumbs will also enjoy the oblong-leaved sundew (Drosera intermedia) which grows at 1,780 meters in the peatlands of the Lavazé Plateau. No more than eight inches, the flower appears to be covered in dew, however, its leaves are sprinkled with sticky and shiny drops, capturing the insects. These flowers can be spotted during the excursion from Passo di Lavazè that takes guests to the scenic top of the Pala Santa.
Free Outdoor Weeks
In addition to the range of floral trails available to walk, nature lovers who are visiting Trentino can enjoy the Free Outdoor Weeks in Madonna di Campiglio, which will run from 19 June to 4 July and then again from 1 to 21 September 2025.
