Discover the city centre of Trento with a short walk, following the historical path of the Prince Bishops from the Cathedral to the Castle. Starting point is the large Piazza Duomo, a precious harmonic treasure chest, but also a refined living room of the city: the Fountain of Neptune, the Praetorian Palace, the frescoed houses, the Cathedral of San Vigilio, patron saint of the city, the most representative historical seat of the Council of Trent. Continue along Via Belenzani, which is truly an exciting imperial street: wide and colourful, with remarkable prestigious buildings and characteristic tower-houses. Turning right on Via Manci, you will find numerous noble palaces that show the charm of their history, art, legends, such as that of Palazzo Galasso, also known as the "Devil's Palace". At the next intersection, one of the most frequented places in the medieval city, turn left along Via del Suffragio to discover a series of characteristic arcades and historic houses of what was the "German District". This leads to the medieval Torre Verde, known for its large Gothic dome, built in the 1400s to defend the river port on the Adige that flowed there before its deviation in the modern age. Continuing on the right for the last stretch along Via Clesio, you will pass the bastioned wall of the Castello del Buonconsiglio, an imposing and elegant symbol of the centuries-old power of the Prince-Bishops who established it as their residence from 1255 to 1803. The complex is an authentic concentration of history and works of art, culminating in the lively and famous "Cycle of the Months", a masterpiece of chivalric painting located inside the Torre dell 'Aquila. Currently home to museums and prestigious exhibitions, the Castle thus welcomes the steps of those who have followed a historical and symbolic path between spiritual and temporal power.
