Chestnut is a plant that in past centuries has had a profound impact on the economic and food life of the people of the Valle del Chiese. A long tradition witnessed by the expanses of woods cultivated with different varieties. In the area of Daone, for example, there are the ancient Favaröla and the chestnut of San Michele, while in the surroundings of Riccomassimo the Podet, finally, on the slopes above the villages of Darzo and Lodrone the most precious of all: the brown. A fine-grained fruit with a very sweet taste and superior pulp quality. Pride of the Lodron counts, the browns of Darzo and Lodrone include the centuries-old chestnut tree of Villò di Sotto included in the List of Monumental Trees of Italy (Mipaaf).
