Dining out in the mountains

In a chalet or in an Alpine hut, after a walk in the snow

There is nothing nicer than stepping into a warm chalet after a hike in the snow. You take off your cap, gloves and coat, warm yourself a little by the stove and sit on a warm and cosy wooden bench. And then, you can decide what to eat.

Maybe you can opt for a classic, by starting with a platter of speck, luganega and Alpine cheeses, followed by gulash and polenta. Or perhaps you can opt for some hot canederli, to keep up with traditions.

What will make it all so special is the landscape you can take in from the windows, with fir and larch forests covered in snow, while being cuddled by the chalet's warm wooden walls, in good company, perhaps with a glass of Teroldego. Warm and with your friends.

Tastes of tradition

As the sun sets in upper Val di Cembra, after snowshoeing through the woods from the Masi Alti di Grumes farmsteads for about an hour, what could be better than a host that can tell you not only what will be served in every dish, but above all where the ingredients came from? At the Rifugio Potzmauer Mountain Hut, you can experience this every winter weekend in Trentino.

A cradle of stars

A snowshoeing excursion or a ride on a snowcat? However you get here, from Andalo or Molveno, La Montanara on the Pradel Plateau of the Paganella mountain is your gateway to the stars among the Brenta Italian Alps. Fresh home-made pasta, charcuterie boards, polenta cooked over a wood fire and desserts, all from the Sartori family, who have managed this mountain hut with love for forty years.

The art of gourmet

Book your gourmet meal in this chalet in the heart of Latemar. You can get directly to the Chalet Cesarina mountain cabin in Val di Fiemme by snowmobile, skirting around RespirArt: the world’s highest art park. Upon arrival, you’ll find home-made pasta served with sausage, goulash, and game stews or PDO charcuterie boards.

Baked on stone

The Cascina Zeledria Restaurant is located 3 kilometres from the centre of Madonna di Campiglio, at an altitude of 1767 metres. Its strength? The specialities cooked on soapstone and accompanied by special sauces. And the best thing is that you can reach the restaurant with snowshoes or a snowcat.

Like a hug

Inside the Bes-Corna Piana nature reserve which protects the floral heritage of Monte Baldo, the "garden of Europe", the FOS-CE Refuge is a mountain lodge that exudes ancient flavours. Grilled dumplings, gnocchi, polenta, sauerkraut and ribs in dishes that will satisfy the appetite of a day spent immersed in nature, hunting for treasures in the snow.

The chocolate of the Italian Alps

The Baita Ciocomiti mountain cabin is a balcony onto the Brenta Italian Alps within the “Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta Val di Sole Val Rendena” ski area. You can get there by snowshoeing along well-signposted, marked trails or on a snowcat by the light of the moon. Traditional Trentino dishes, home-made desserts, and of course the obligatory chocolate!

A stone's throw from the lake

A stone's throw from the lake

At an altitude of 2000 metres, embraced by the peaks of the Marmolada Mountains, the Agritur Malga San Pellegrino is just right by Lake San Pellegrino. You can reach it on foot with snowshoes, and then sit around its wooden tables to enjoy a plate of hot polenta - a must in any mountain's cottage - which is served here with stew, cheese (try the melted version!), mushrooms and sausage.

A balcony overlooking the Dolomites

From here, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Brenta Dolomites. We are talking about the Malga Ritorto Restaurant, which can be reached on foot from Madonna di Campiglio. An ideal place to have dinner or lunch with typical Trentino products, and to get some magnificent shots of sunrises and incredible sunsets.
