The San Martino di Castrozza Trail

The eco-friendly, clean, healthy choice

Precious gems reflecting windy roads. San Martino di Castrozza, Passo Rolle, Primiero and Vanoi offer a wealth of different environments and habitats, many protected by the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park. Primiero San Martino di Castrozza is also an official Alpine Pearl for its environmental and social commitment.

This all-encompassing care covers mobility and taste, hospitality and park management, clean energy and the promotion of culture and art, all fundamental drivers for real change. This territory boldly tells us that an 'eco-friendly' lifestyle is urgent and necessary but, above all, desirable and possible.

Yellow and blue energy

'100% renewable': this is how Legambiente declared the municipalities in Valle di Primiero and Valle di Vanoi that are powered by renewable energy, also selecting them as one of the best European areas for energy innovation. Blue energy in this case, because it comes from the river. Primiero's electricity comes from 13 hydroelectric power stations that supply the entire territory, allowing you to recharge whatever you need, from e-Bikes to mobile phones, with the gushing, clear power of water.

Wood also plays its part, as its waste fuels 2 biomass power plants. To discover for yourself how nature and technology intersect in a purposeful relationship, you can book a guided tour of the hydroelectric power plants.

Youth for Mountain Ecology

#MountainEcology is youth, mountains - and youth with the mountains. In 2019, the members of the San Martino di Castrozza Youth Group launched this campaign, aiming to organise initiatives for residents and tourists that would develop a better awareness of the territory and a deeper understanding of the different kinds of environmental issues.

Through dialogue and roundtables, the promotion of good practices and a participatory focus on digital communication, young people aged between 18 and 30 joined forces and reclaimed their role as active protagonists in tackling the challenges of our times.
