Sustainable Garda Trentino

Unity is strength

What are you thinking of when you say Garda? It is much more than the lake and the locations that have made these places famous throughout the world. From Alto Garda to Valle dei Laghi, from Comano to Val di Ledro, Garda is a land that grows, lives and rediscovers itself by networking, connecting valleys, lakes and towns, building new synergies and working in diversity for a shared future.

The strength of teamwork shows its results in the management of forests, lakes and paths, but also in the enhancement of the culture and identity of villages and pastures, of mountain huts and of activities that make these areas unique, such as the production of olive oil at the foot of the Alps. Ever more committed to ‘doing things together’, the diversified yet close-knit community of Garda involves tourists and visitors in experiences, but also in the careful and integrated management of its natural and cultural beauties. After all, relationship means exchange, reciprocity and responsibility, as well as respect between people and the world around them.

Mobility

Moving means experiencing a territory. The way we move gives us a different experience of time and space, but it also leaves an imprint on places and people… as well as in our pockets. Car-free Garda lets us and the environment breathe, in a winning alliance for everyone.

You can move to all corners of the territory by bus, boat, bike or on foot, and with the Bus&Go app you can also take advantage of an integrated service to public transport that allows you to reach your destination as fast as possible.

Clean Up Days

Four days of meetings, activities and responsibilities in which citizens and visitors work together with the territory in a perspective of regeneration and reciprocity. Collect waste, comb woods, meadows and lakes, and then meet and discuss in laboratories, events and workshops. It is an initiative in which you can participate anywhere in the territory - just coordinate with the interactive CleanUp Map! - alone or in a group. It is also an opportunity to discover the secret corners of Upper Garda.

Outdoor Park Garda Trentino and Garda Rangers

Humans and nature in Garda are always in contact: paths, cliffs, lakes, villages and woods are visited by residents and tourists and, in recent years, outdoor activities have been increasingly successful. That is why, in 2009, local institutions and organisations joined forces in Outdoor Park Garda Trentino, a unique project  in Europe for the integrated management of places and initiatives, in order to ensure the correct and responsible use of all Lake Garda areas.

The aim was to organise and discuss, agreeing on rules and objectives and sharing ideas and good practices. Enthusiasm and fun thus become the driving force of sustainability: living our passions intensely allows us to establish deep bonds with nature and people, and to build together a constructive and eco-friendly outdoor culture.

The Garda Rangers move among the rocks and on the paths, checking that everything is in order and fixing or intervening where necessary. They are mountain professionals, but we can all help them by acting as sentinels of the common good and reporting any critical situations.

Mese del Gusto, a gala of flavour in Garda Trentino

Autumn has the flavours of conviviality and cordiality: during the event Mese del Gusto from the most remote villages to the most visited centres, all localities work together to offer an experience over time and space where the protagonists are the love for one’s own land and the valleys’ ancient spirit of hospitality. From Ledro to Val di Gresta, from Judicarie to the shores of Lake Garda, there is space only for products grown, harvested and processed on site, just a stone’s throw from where they are prepared and enjoyed.

Walnuts and pumpkins, cheeses, oils, flours and sweets, a month of flavours and aromas, of celebrations, fairs and elaborate tastings which embody the direct and concrete simplicity that comes from the Garda meadows and woods. Each place offers the best of itself in a symphony of encounters and appointments: each dish and each product are the note of a much larger score of those who always have an extra seat at the table. And what could be better than many tables set and ready to welcome you to the rhythm of the seasons?

Events and Education

More and more nowadays the ‘how’ matters more than the ‘what’, because everything can be done either well or badly. At Lake Garda there are more and more events not only linked to the theme of sustainability, but also conducted in a sustainable manner. From bike races to regattas, from mountain to lake activities, from festivals to cultural meetings, we are moving towards an approach that takes into account the social and environmental sustainability of major events.

The role of those who participate is essential: good practices and small but significant acts of attentiveness, from waste management to water management, from respect for biodiversity to awareness of the fragility of certain ecosystems, everything moves towards the co-management of nature. We are on the road, now we pedal, walk, sail and dream together: the destination is in the journey.
