A tour of wineries, distilleries, and restaurants

From the Valle dei Laghi to Garda, riding the wave of flavour

There may not be a sea in Trentino, but water plays a starring role here, shaping some of the region’s most distinctive landscapes. One of these is the Valle dei Laghi, where the journey flows from shore to shore, leading us to the iconic Lake Garda.

Where the tour begins

Our journey starts at Lake Toblino, where a “floating” castle steals the hearts of all who pass by. It’s well worth stopping to take it in from up close, savouring its beauty from different perspectives. The lakeside path leading to Santa Massenza is perfect for this – a village known as the capital of artisanal grappa in Trentino, boasting five working distilleries for just a hundred inhabitants

From the queen of Trentino white grapes

A visit and a tasting here are a must, as these passionate producers share not only a love for distillation but also for Trentino’s Vino Santo DOC. This precious nectar, made from naturally dried Nosiola grapes, is a sublime experience – best paired with a traditional dessert. For a deeper dive, book a guided visit every Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday to the Casa Caveau del Vino Santo in Padergnone. This evocative, interactive exhibition space is housed in the cellars of the former Rigotti drying lofts, where grapes were once left to wither.

Between trails and restaurants

After a stroll along the Nosiola Ethnographic Trail, winding through irrigation channels, vineyards, and breathtaking views, stop by Hosteria Toblino. Here, Chef Sebastian Sartorelli will amaze you with his creative and elegant take on traditional dishes, served in a warm, welcoming setting.

As you approach Lake Garda, why not take a lunar detour and go dinosaur hunting? Where? The Marocche di Dro Trail, with its giant boulders evoking a lunar landscape, hides footprints left by prehistoric reptiles some 190 million years ago. Feeling peckish after your adventure? Head to La Casina di Drena, where Giada Miori offers “natural cuisine at the edge of the woods” – an irresistible treat.

A Mediterranean touch amidst Alpine scenery

Switch scenery with a 7-kilometre loop along the “Olive Path,” which meanders through Arco’s olive groves. Starting in the town’s historic centre and passing through the Archduke’s Park, the trail offers stunning vistas and pristine nature. After immersing yourself in the olive-scented landscape, satisfy your curiosity for Garda’s liquid gold with a guided tasting at Maso Bòtes, an agriturismo that also offers accommodation and wellness experiences.

For an unforgettable dinner, chase the stars to Peter Brunel’s restaurant, where tasting menus take you on a journey of flavour, featuring some of the chef’s most iconic creations.

The pearl of Lake Garda

Before heading home, a leisurely afternoon in Riva del Garda is highly recommended. Enjoy shopping and relaxation, with a sweet or savoury treat from the Garda Foodie pastry shop – all crafted in its artisanal kitchen. For a final, breathtaking view of the lake, take the panoramic lift (or walk!) up to the Bastione. Once there, unwind in the spectacular lounge, perfect for an unforgettable aperitif or refined lunch.
