Discover the hidden gems to visit in Trentino that you will carry in your memory forever!
In one of the main valleys of the Italian Alps, Val di Fiemme, we find the Cavalese waterfall. Aesthetically perfect, it descends from the stream that originates in the Lagorai and falls to form a crater of crystal-clear, cool water.
After admiring the waterfall, cross the road bridge into Val Moena and turn immediately left, where a path crosses a long stretch of forest to the Pezo del Gazolin, an imposing monumental spruce estimated to have originated around 1798. From here, take the path up the Rio di Val Moena to reach Ponte del Tabià. Not to be missed is the steel footbridge, inaugurated in September 2019, which allows you to approach the waterfall from above and enjoy its most impressive side. You must agree that it’s a true wonder!
If you are in search of fresh air, you should not miss the ischie, areas located near the water on the banks of the Avisio stream. These once-cultivated alluvial and flat areas have been transformed over the years into lush forests. Along the banks of the Avisio stream, you will find ruins and sandy beaches that are excellent for taking a break, cooling off and relaxing while listening to the water flow.
The Avisio stream is a wonderful location for peaceful walks along the banks or for a day of alpine fishing. At the same time, it also allows for adrenalin-fuelled thrills thanks to rafting!
Not far from the more famous Calaita Lake, the Pisorno is a small body of water at an altitude of 2,200 metres. Its waters are green and very deep, impossible to measure. Mysteries and prophecies about this lake abound. It is said to be inhabited by protective spirits ready to take revenge the moment someone throws a stone into its waters! The route from Lake Calaita allows you to fully enjoy the nature’s richness by crossing not only Lake Pisorno but also other small Alpine lakes.
The presence of numerous small and large larches makes the route particularly captivating even in autumn. From mid-October, in fact, the yellow-orange colours of the trees will dominate your view, a wonderful contrast to the deep blue of the lake and the small streams running through the valley.
In the heart of the Italian Alps, more precisely in Val di Fassa, it is possible to admire a very rare phenomenon: a waterfall on a basalt wall featuring a series of striking and spectacular columns! The waterfall is near Mortic, a village near Canazei.
The uniqueness of this waterfall lies in the rock that hosts it, a basalt step of volcanic origin that can be traced back to the Middle Triassic period, which has a very original fissure. This generates columnar outcrops so rare that it is considered a miracle of nature with few examples like it in Italy or the world.
If you want, you can end the day on a high note by visiting the Soracrepa falls, a breathtaking waterfall immersed in the forest, also near Canazei.
