Lilya Zilberstein rose to international prominence in 1987, winning the Busoni Competition in Bolzano. It was a sensational victory and it took five years before the Prize was awarded again. Since then the pianist, Moscow-born and German by adoption, has not stopped touring throughout Europe, North and South America and Asia, playing with the world's best orchestras.
In 1991 she was invited by the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Claudio Abbado, and began a close collaboration that was completed with the famous recording for Deutsche Grammophon of Rachmaninov's Concertos No. 2 and No. 3. She has performed all over the world with violinist Maxim Vengerov and in 2009 celebrated her first 20 years of her career with an extensive European duo tour with Martha Argerich, with whom she plays regularly each year.
In Italy she made her debut with immediate success at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 1988, and since then she has given more than 250 concerts for all the major musical institutions, including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Lilya Zilberstein holds the chair of piano at the prestigious MDW-Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and gives masterclasses around the world.
