Grand Carnival of Storo
During Carnival week, from 7 to 17 February, Storo celebrates the Gran Carnevale Storese.
The Storo Carnival was born somewhat as a joke in 1967 when, at the time, wooden floats were decorated with a structure representing the protagonists of the stories told in the piazza on Carnival day. The local desire was to create an event that would make the Carnival period unique and special.
The first floats that were made told in their satires the gossip of the village, current events of the nation, and sometimes even amusing legends about village characters. Since the 1990s, the creation of moving floats on wheels began, which travelled along a route within the village streets, whereas today, they are stationary on that same route.
One of the most important elements of the parade has always been the music: it has gone from the more traditional sounds of accordions, to orchestras playing music suitable for ballroom dancing, to internationally renowned DJs. Over the years, not only the music has changed, but the scope of this great festival, which year after year attracts more and more spectators and participants.
