Saint Antonio Feast
Alba celebrates its patron saint Sant’Antonio and the beginning of the Ladin Carnival
On 17 January, Alba di Canazei celebrates its patron saint, St. Anthony, an event that marks the beginning of Carnival in Val di Fassa, as expressed in the Ladin saying "se desleà l Carnascèr". This vibrant celebration involves all the villages, from Moena to Penìa, and enlivens the valley non-stop until Mardi Gras with the hilarious "mascheredès" (theatrical performances in the Ladin language), parades featuring the traditional wooden masks known as "faceres", exquisite works crafted by local sculptors, costume dances, sleigh rides, and enchanting torchlit ski processions.
Saint’Anthony feast programme:
- at 10:30 a.m. Holy Mass by the church in Alba
- "grostoli" (Italian carnival pastry) tasting and small open-air aperitif will follow in front of the church
