Val di Fassa: the Ladin community’s accessible sites

A Trentino experience for everyone

The Val di Fassa guards a unique identity and culture. Ladin is still spoken here, a Romance language that dates back to the end of the 1st century B.C. and has never died out: it is still spoken in everyday life, at school and in public administration. It never stops evolving, while perpetuating the oldest soul of its community.

In these places steeped in deep-rooted history, the options for travellers preserve the essence of life in the mountains but are transformed to accommodate ever more people.

For those who want to learn about local identity and culture, the Ladin Museum is the ideal place to start. History, legends, traditions and immersive trails will accompany you through the history of the Ladin community. The museum is accessible to people with disabilities: here you can find contact details for any questions or requests.

In Val di Fassa, nature is also inclusive. You can travel through landscapes where rock faces, crystal-clear waterfalls, fir forests and flower-filled meadows alternate, telling the story of a land that changes colours and scents according to the season.

To begin exploring it, you can take a stretch of the Fiemme and Fassa Dolomites cycle path, a 47-kilometre-long cycle path that passes through villages and skirts deep green pastures as it follows the course of the Avisio river.

You can choose the track for hiking. The route alternates between flat stretches and easy ups and downs and is also accessible to people with various disabilities.

Or, if you enjoy cycling, the route is also suitable for relaxing bike rides, perhaps dividing the route into several stages. The track is also accessible to cyclists with mobility difficulties who ride special bicycles.

Before setting off, download the map indicating the services along the route , including refreshment stops, rentals and workshops, and contact the tourist offices to ensure that your planned route is free of obstacles or barriers.

Those who like to experience the mountains by bicycle can also use the Bike Express service in Val di Fassa, which allows you to go up the valley with a special bus for transporting bicycles. The bus is accessible to people with sensory or intellectual disabilities. If you have mobility difficulties and would like to use the service, please call 0462 609500 to ensure that the spaces are suitable and accessible for your needs.

Finally, in San Giovanni di Fassa, a hamlet of Pozza di Fassa, you can find the Fassa Rent bike hire shop, where you can rent e-bikes suitable for people with motor disabilities.

If you are looking for a vantage point from which to cast your gaze between the peaks and the sky, Sass Pordoi will give you an enchanting view. You can get to the Terrazza delle Dolomiti by car, by private shuttle bus, by public transport and by cable car: the cable car is also wheelchair-accessible.

If you would like to reach other vantage points, lifts accessible to people with motor disabilities are shown here

There are also some accessible walks that will allow you to discover the area slowly, savouring each landscape and listening to the sounds of nature:

You just have to decide what to start with: Val di Fassa is waiting to be discovered.
