Trento

Until the next stop

The city and the mountains, culture and nature come together in Trento, on the Monte Bondone and the Altopiano di Piné (Piné Plateau). The houses are surrounded by woods and peaks, and in just a few steps you can go from the hustle and bustle of the old town to the lively silence of the surrounding nature.

Land and people, sustainability and innovation, efficiency and balance ensure that the city of Trento is always at the top of quality of life rankings. In 2023 Legambiente and IlSole24Ore named Trento the best Italian town to live in. The commitment to the synergy of well-being between urban centres and natural ecosystems is ongoing and involves the entire tourism sector.

Together with the Tourist Boards of Valsugana, Alpe Cimbra and Rovereto and Vallagarina, the Tourist Board of Trento, Monte Bondone and Piné has contributed to the creation of the first GSTC-certified tourist destination in Italy, embarking on an ambitious path towards sustainability. The aim is responsible tourism that involves everyone in a sharing of intentions and values and that touches every aspect of life, from mobility to gastronomy, from sport to art and music.

Preserving the natural, historical and gastronomic heritage of the area is both an end and a means: it is the necessary path for the economic and social growth of local communities, for the future and for the well-being of citizens and visitors.

Bicipolitana

An above-ground pedal-powered metro. A free metro that connects every corner of the city, allowing people to move around while staying healthy and discovering new perspectives every day. This is Trento's Bicipolitana, an urban cycling network: 15 routes, numbered, coloured and marked on the road. Created to facilitate and encourage cycling, the project is an integral part of Trento's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which aims to promote environmentally friendly transportation and reduce car traffic.

The Bicipolitana not only connects various points of interest in the city, such as the Castello del Buonconsiglio and the Doss Trento, but is also integrated into regional and international cycle routes, acting as a starting point, destination or link for cycling adventures near and far.

The Cicloboxes, secure bicycle storage facilities, offer comfort and safety to cyclists who can enjoy a snack, visit a museum, attend a concert or simply take a break. Urban mobility becomes a virtuous model for enjoying a city that is increasingly open to the outside world.

Sustainable Trento

Festival dell’Economia

Tackling the climate crisis and the major humanitarian and environmental emergencies requires a profound rethinking of our economic model. The Festival dell’Economia (Festival of the Economy) in Trento is a time for discussion and debate on the prospects and opportunities of contemporary society.

The festival transforms the city into a laboratory of ideas on economic and current affairs, taking place in various venues in the historic centre of Trento. Since a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, the Festival is carried out with respect for the environment and people, according to sustainability criteria certified by the international standard ISO 20121:2012, which uses specific indicators to reduce the impact of events at all stages, from planning to implementation.

The Festival's management methods take into account both the direct and indirect impacts of the event, aligning its operation with the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Specific actions range from sustainable mobility to local economic development, from the use of water dispensers to recycling of site furnishings.

What to visit in Trento? Trento is famous for the Muse, the museum by Renzo Piano

Muse - Trento Science Museum

A dynamic museum that becomes a city and a citizen: this is the Muse, Trento Science Museum, now an international reference point for its numerous initiatives that are able to combine science and social responsibility, innovation and sustainability, high level research and citizen science. Involving youth and local communities is a top priority, and it has become a meeting point for different programmes, an actor of an ever-evolving present, of which it wants to be a hub and a driving force.

Founded in 2013, the Muse has been promoting for more than ten years a model of an interactive and engaged museum, that teaches and lets teach, rooted in humility, competence and sharing. The Muse has adopted the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and integrated them into its activities. It promotes a culture of sustainability through educational projects, exhibitions and collaborations with local and international institutions.

In 2021, the Muse opened the “Sustainability Gallery”, a permanent exhibition space of over 400 square metres dedicated to exploring the causes, effects and solutions to the climate crisis, inviting visitors to reflect on the future of the planet and humanity.
