Canal San Bovo
Spectacular natural surroundings
The Vanoi district, of which Canal San Bovo is the chief town, with its many hamlets scattered throughout the valley, covers an area of about 125 square kilometres featuring mostly woods, lakes, streams, pastures and tiny picturesque villages. Thanks to its unspoilt nature, visitors can enjoy its quiet charm and magic in winter too.
In the cold season, the Vanoi valley becomes the favoured destination of adventurous skiing enthusiasts, who come here to practice ski alpinism and cross-country skiing on the circuit around Lake Calaita. But the resort isn't just about skiing; there are other interesting options to go for, such as snow-shoe hiking, using the local snow-shoes called craspe - strolling through the woods and up to the mountain huts - as well as traditional sledding.
The key sport event is the Raduno sci alpinistico del Vanoi, a ski rally held in March.
