Building works on the Chiesa arcipretale dell' Assunzione in Fiera di Primiero - the deanery church featuring a tall, frescoed bell tower - were completed in 1493 and was consecrated two years later by Andrea Trevisano, Bishop of Feltre. Erected during the intense and highly profitable mining time characterizing the area, the building features a large hall divided into three naves, and is decorated with a number of prized frescoes. Indoor it boasts Baroque altars, the most imressive being the "miners" altar. The choir is a masterpiece featuring paintings of Bible stories as well as an imposing organ dated 1900.
Special mention goes to the large fresco Giangiacomo Roemer had painted in memory of his dead children around the 1550s. This Renaissance style painting features the colours and heraldic insignias of the Roemer-Brandis family, together with six noble insignias, including the Hapsburg eagle and two crests of the Welspergs - the valley's reigning family since 1401. While refurbishing the area, archaeologists also discovered the remains of a Paleo-Christian Cathedral dating back to the 5-6th century.
