Centro della Fondazione Stava 1985 Onlus
An Italian story not to be forgotten: the Centre of the Stava 1985 Onlus Foundation tells its visitors about the genesis and consequences of a tragedy that has forever marked the valley.
Around here they consider it a sort of "second Vajont". On July 19, 1985, the collapse of the Prestavèl mine dumps caused a mudslide that overwhelmed the Val di Stava, killing 268 people and destroying 8 bridges and dozens of buildings. A culpable disaster for which after seven years 10 defendants would have been definitively sentenced, including those responsible for the construction and management of the upper basin, the directors of the mine, some representatives of the companies that operated on the basin itself and public officials who omitted controls on the landfill altogether. Thanks to an educational programme and the screening of a short film, the Fondazione Stava 1985 Onlus gives you the opportunity to learn about and reflect on a tragedy that is too often forgotten.
