Slowly climb with the right effort, pass through woods, suddenly descend in sight of a mountain hut where you can enjoy the reward of an active and carefree day. Riding a mountain bike in Trentino does not just mean pedalling, but living your holiday in a dynamic way, to free yourself from tension, and to breathe in the fresh air of our mountains.
In Trentino, each valley has its own distinctive landscape; for this reason, you can discover a new trail each time, to test yourself in an ever-changing environment. There are many medium-level trails, both on forest roads, on dirt roads or along mountain trails, suitable for those with minimum training. The height variances are not always prohibitive and can often be reduced thanks to ski lifts, which are open most of the year.
You don’t need to be a trained cyclist, but these tours have been selected for those who already have trained legs, even if just a little. You can discover them below!
Tenna Hill Tour
This tour takes you slightly higher enough - the height variance is minimal - to see the lakes of Caldonazzo and Levico from a privileged point. Along the way, you will also encounter places of historical interest, such as Castel Pergine, Forte delle Benne and Forte di Tenna, and the church of San Valentino.
Tour of the Forts
The Tour of the Forts climbs at high altitude, along old WWI Austro-Hungarian forts and sweeping views of the Adamello - Presanella. It starts from the village of Ossana, climbing up to the Tonale Pass.
Avalina Trail
The Avalina Trail is suitable for those who have trained legs and want to discover not-so-popular trails. Just over a thousand metres in altitude to be tackled at slow pace, taking breaks to admire the landscape: the view goes from the Brenta Dolomites to Monte Baldo, on Lake Garda.
Monte Guarda Tour
The route starts from Rango, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, reaches Passo Duron on a dirt road, and continues up to Monte Guarda. It goes down into the woods with the beautiful Castel Restor in view, then goes down through the beautiful villages of Bleggio.
Moena, Costalunga, Soraga
The route is mostly on forest roads, passing through the middle of the woods, and takes you to the border between the provinces of Trento and Bolzano (Costalunga Pass / Carezza). On the way back, it crosses the beautiful village of Tamion, in the Municipality of Sèn Jan di Fassa.
Panoramic tour of the Piné plateau
A tour that runs along the lakes of Serraia and Piazze, until you reach Lake Buse. For the more daring, a detour leads to the Cros del Cuc viewpoint with a view over the entire plateau, the Brenta group and the peaks of the Lagorai chain. Along the way, you will find many rest and refreshment points.
The Latemar tour
This itinerary has a view of the Latermar and Catinaccio Dolomites. The ski lifts reduce a large part of the altitude variance; here, you are among Alpine pastures, pretty huts and green woods. From October 2018, you also come across wide expanses bearing witness to a visit by the Vaia Storm.
The Tour of Huts
The Vanoi Valley is one of the wildest and greenest areas in Trentino. This tour crosses large pastures, extensive woods, and bubbling streams, coming across a variety of mountain huts. Along the way, you will admire the beauty of the Cauriol, Cardinal and Cece Mountains, the Cima d’Asta group and the Pale di S. Martino.
On the Bear’s Tracks
A loop of trails between the Brenta Dolomites, Paganella and Val di Non. Take the “Via Imperiale”, cross the slopes of the Brenta Dolomites Group and, through a series of trails, pass near Castel Sporo and the mysterious “Bus de la Spia” cave. A climb takes you up to the Spormaggiore Wildlife Park, where you may come across bears, wolves and many other carnivores of the Alps.
From the lake to the mountain on Alpe Cimbra
Straddling the municipalities of Lavarone and Folgaria, this tour connects Monte Cornetto (1,530 metres above sea level) with Lake Lavarone (1,120 metres above sea level), a jewel in the mountains lined by thick woods, with clean and pristine waters, so much so that it was awarded the Blue Flag in 2021 as well.
