Giro del Tuono
<p>A short excursion, just beyond the Passo Coe saddle, in the large pasture area of Malga Melegna. It starts from Base Tuono, a museum (open from April to October) witnessing the former NATO missile base of 'Malga Zonta - Monte Toraro', active from 1964 to 1977. The suggestions of history, in this case of the Cold War, meet here the beauty of the surrounding, typically alpine territory.</p>
<p>We are in an area between 1,500 and 1,600 m above sea level, facing north and generally covered in snow. The excursion follows the forest road that climbs from the Malga Zonta memorial (in memory of the Nazi massacre of 12 August 1944) towards the summit of Mount Maggio. But we deviate towards the Malga Melegna and then return, in an enjoyable descent, to the starting point.</p>
