From jazz to the sounds of the world: a journey on the strings of a double bass virtuoso

He’s been called “the Paganini of the double bass” and for good reason: Renaud Garcia-Fons is one of France’s leading specialists when it comes to his chosen instrument and he makes the most of its expressive potential – especially melodically – thanks to virtuoso use of his bow. Influenced by his teacher and mentor Francois Rabbath, after studying at a conservatory he started playing jazz and then began to embrace world music from Andalusia, Latin America, India and Arab countries, while continuing to show his Mediterranean roots and harnessing his classical background.  In Giasenei, which lies above the village of Sagron Mis, between the Pale di San Martino, Cimonega and Vette Feltrine, Renaud Garcia-Fons will perform in a trio alongside accordionist David Venitucci and vibraphonist and percussionist Stephen Caracci. Together, the three of them recorded the album La vie devant soi, which is bursting with chamber music flavours and endless nuances in sound.
