Sentiero della Pace 28: Campestrini to Rifugio Malga Conséria

A long but fairly fast-moving transfer stage, in the direction of Lagorai and Cima d'Asta. A slightly dull start is made up for by a gorgeous final climb, overlooking Val Campelle from above.

Cross through the centre of Campestrini, keeping an eye out for the signposts, and embark on a climb in the direction of Musiera. Walk for about a kilometre along a cobbled mule track, part paved with asphalt, rising quickly. Next, you’ll switch to a clearly marked trail. The ascent doesn’t let up, but there are no obstacles whatsoever and you’ll be in the shadow of the woods almost all the time.

After a few kilometres the incline decreases and, at an altitude of 1,365 m, you’ll pass the forest road that leads a short way to the village of Musiera di Sopra. Continue along the apparently flat asphalt ground, passing through Musiera di Sotto. Still on the forest road, you’ll keep going along a stretch of ups and downs. Once around the Corno rise, you’ll descend slightly along a dirt road. At the Malga La Pozza forest hut (closed or self-service), turn left and continue your descent until you find yourself in a large car park, beside the state road.

Follow the road just far enough to cross the Maso river on the floor of the valley, then leave it behind to rejoin the forest road and continue descending in the direction of Pontarso. Rejoining the course of the river at Pontarso, turn left and cross the Rio Maso Spinelle shortly afterwards, via the large bridge. Once on the opposite bank, the slow climb back up Val Campelle begins, first on a dirt road and then along asphalt. Rising quickly, you’ll come to the main road and follow it for a few kilometres, passing by some small hamlets before reaching Rifugio Carlettini. To the south-east, in the gap between two wide valleys, the walls of Cima Caldenave and the Campanile peaks in Val Orsera can be spied.

Though you can stop for the night here, we recommend hanging in there a little further, aiming for Malga Conseria. From Rifugio Carlettini, take the Sentiero dell'Acqua or Water Trail parallel to Rio Maso Spinelle. Back on asphalt for the last time, a few hundred metres will bring you to Ponte Conseria, where you’ll take trail 326. The climb changes here, becoming steeper and steadier, but the view improves in tandem and the trail is well marked out. After a short stretch parallel to the slope, giving you the time to get your breath back, one final charge will bring you to the meadows of Malga Conseria.
