830 - Carbonare - Rust - Lago di Lavarone
Monte Rust. A mountain, more of a hill than a mountain, to be climbed and circumvented by pedalling through a beautiful mixed forest of beech and spruce trees. Here there are echoes of the Great War, but above all there is... the romantic beauty of Lake Lavarone!
In times gone by, the village of Carbonare was referred to as 'Kankohligen', meaning 'to the charcoal burners', i.e. the place inhabited by woodcutters who produced charcoal. This is history from the past. From Carbonare we set off up the wooded slope of the Rust mountain, with the summit of the hill as our destination. Up there, the 'Observatory' awaits us, a masonry structure without a roof, in the walls of which holes have been cut. It is a building from the Great War. In the holes were electric projectors that allowed the exchange of optical signals between the forts and the command stations. Let us look inside. There are no longer forts in the viewfinder but the green fir trees, which have taken over the scene! Now let's get back on the mountain bike and descend from the high ground. Once out of the forest, a surprise awaits us... the beautiful Lavarone Lake! How about a dip in this Bike Friendly lake? A towel kit awaits you at the lidos!
