Per Via: Museo delle Stampe e dell'Ambulantato (Museum of Prints and Pedlars)
A museum that tells the tales of the travelling salespeople who reached the farthest corners of the globe with their artistic prints.
Casa Buffa Giacantoni in the historic centre of Pieve Tesino was home to generations of print-sellers. After its last inhabitants moved out in the 1960s, it now represents an invaluable repository of Tesino’s social history with the PER VIA Museo delle Stampe e dell'Ambulantato. It tells the tale of Tesino’s travelling pedlars, who reached the farthest corners of the globe with their artistic prints, setting up shops and even becoming publishers. The exhibit offers different perspectives: the men’s story, of the travellers undertaking unimaginable journeys on foot; and that of their families, who stayed in their home towns and faced the equally challenging trials of mountain life. The museum is run by the Fondazione Trentina Alcide De Gasperi.
HIGHLIGHT
The museum shines a spotlight on a unique trade that has now died out.
