Parco Museo Malga Zonta
Since ancient times, the area of Passo Coe, in Folgaria, has been a border area. The hills, meadows and extensive fir forests that characterise the area have been the site of bitter and centuries-old border disputes. They have known the disputes between the Republic of Venice and the Episcopal Principality. Harsh frontline clashes took place here in 1915-1916 culminating in the most violent phase of the Spring Offensive.
These places were the setting for events related to the Resistance, marked by the massacre of Malga Zonta on 12 August 1944.
Also here, in the sixties and seventies of the last century, the nuclear events of the Cold War were intertwined with the presence of the Malga Zonta – Monte Toraro missile base, today witnessed by Base Tuono, a museum installation of its kind unique in Europe.
To recount the exceptional nature of a place such as Passo Coe - which at an altitude of 1600 m, in a prized alpine setting, knows how to tell centuries of history, in particular the great conflicts that tore apart the twentieth century - the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino, the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Municipality of Folgaria have started the project of a museum park called Parco museo Malga Zonta - Base Tuono for two years.
