Mulino Zeni
In Brentonico an ancient mill still in perfect working order
Fundamental to the rural economy, the "Vitruvian" mill in Palmenti was found everywhere in the Trentino valleys, near small and large rivers. Of the more than a thousand mills that could be counted on this territory around the nineteenth century, the Zeni Mill, erected in 1806 by the Balista Family, is the only one with hydraulic power still in operation in the Sorna Valley. Here, in the nineteenth century, about twenty mills, forges and sawmills were operated by water. The mill was purchased by the Zeni Family in 1906. It features a large cassette wheel and a smaller iron wheel. It was once used, above all, for the splitting of feed for local poultry farming. Recently restored, this small mill is fully functional and open to visits by appointment.
STRENGTH
Of the more than 1,000 historic mills in the Trentino area, used to grind cereals, the Mulino Zeni is one of the few still in perfect operation.
