Mulino Ruatti Museum
A functioning water mill that’s been in use since the 19th century! There’s no better way to understand the importance of water as an essential resource for the rural mountain economy.
This mill, for which records exist dating back to the 18th century, sits at the entrance to Val di Rabbi. Visiting means going back in time, when the mill played a crucial rule in the rural economy. The tour begins outside, where you can see the water wheels that drive the machinery inside the mill, turned by a canal that carries water from the Rabbiés river. The mill is just one part of a building which was also home to the miller and his family. Above the sheds and the working areas on the ground floor are the bedrooms, kitchen and traditional stuå, a wood-panelled room with a great ceramic stove where the family would gather when their work was done. On the top floor is the hay loft, with a room for the famèi (apprentice), all in wood.
HIGHLIGHT
One of only a few 19th-century mills still working in Trentino.
