L Segat - The sylviculture
Forest, trees, wood, ancient gear, history and legends: all this and so much more can be found in "L Segat", the latest branch created by the Ladin Museum of Fassa, dedicated to sylviculture and inaugurated in 2017 in the resort of Meida.
This peculiar building, overlooking the renewed sawmill of Pozza, hosts the collection by "Bepo e Jan Cherlo", a carpenters family from Moena that has preserved an impressive amount of ancient tools. The carpenter, the woodsman, and the sawyer: these are the three professions linked to wood-processing that are illustrated in the two floors of the museum through descriptions, historical pictures, videos, and objects collected through the years by "Istituto Culturale Ladino". You’ll get to know the difference between the main local tree species and discover their employment.
"L Segat" was designed as a museum facility with educational purpose, with kid-friendly areas, complementary to the branch "La Sia" in Penìa. The attention is focused on the comparison between traditional water-powered sawmills and modern wood-processing techniques.
