Izzy Barber
Waiting Game
Coming on October 5th at Studio d’Arte Raffaelli in Trento will be “Waiting Game”, the first solo exhibition in Italy by Izzy Barber, an American artist born in 1990, former pupil and assistant to Francesco Clemente.
The artist’s distinctive feature is the courageous choice to work exclusively in Plein air, catching the vivid and sincere impression of the present.
Whether it’s urban scenario, as seen in the showcase painting serie “Bar”, “Bus” and “Subway station”, or her evocative natural landscapes, Izzy Barber’s art follows an unmistakable line, characterized by layers that begin with instinctive and immediate brushstrokes, eventually leading to a more precise definition of the surrounding environment with every touch.
As a keen observer of reality, Izzy Barber gives rise, through her expressive methods, to a kind of “post-literary impressionism,” which takes her on journeys both inside and outside of New York at all times of the day and night.
The “waiting game” thus takes place between the artist and the everyday situations she chooses to represent, with artworks that combine the immediacy of a photograph with the contemplation of painting.
The “Waiting Game” exhibition includes about thirty paintings and fifteen watercolors on paper, created over the past two years, with some specifically made for the show.
“Waiting Game” will open on Thursday 5 October 2023 at 18.00, in the presence of the artist, and will continue until 12 December 2023.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog featuring text by Stefano Castelli.
