Dürer and the others | Renaissances on the banks of the Adige
The great summer exhibition ‘Dürer and the Origins of the Renaissance in Trentino’, which can be visited from 6 July to 13 October at the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento, addresses the cultural dynamics of the area between Trentino and Tyrol, by virtue of the artistic exchanges that took place along the Adige valley during the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Starting from the ‘Dürer case’, the famous artist who crossed the Alps and passed through our territory in the years 1494-95, the origins of that peculiar Renaissance that developed in Trentino between 1470 and 1530-40 are explored to the greatest possible extent.
On display are extraordinary paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings by important artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Alvise Vivarini, Bartolomeo Dill Riemenschneider, Jorg Artzt, Max Reichlich, Michael Pacher, Girolamo Romanino and others, coming from remarkable museum institutions, such as the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, the Correr Museum in Venice, the Museum Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid, the Strada Nuova Museums in Genoa, and the National Art Gallery of Siena.
The exhibition, promoted by the Buonconsiglio Castle museum, in collaboration with the University of Trento and the Department for Cultural Heritage of Trento, is curated by Bernard Aikema, Laura Dal Prà, Giovanni Maria Fara, and Claudio Salsi.
