100 years of the Madonna di Campiglio Golf Club
When Fritz Osterreicher decided to turn part of the land at Campo Carlo Magno inherited from the Imperial House of Austria into a golf course, he certainly faced major technical and labour problems. Nevertheless, it was 1919 and his foresight prevailed. He entrusted himself to the greatest golfer of the time, Henry Cotton, who designed and implemented the course, which was operational as early as 1921, but not affiliated to the Italian Golf Federation until 1923.
It was thus the third golf course in Italy, after Acquasanta in Rome and Menaggio and Cadenabbia, affiliated in 1907 and 1911 respectively, but also the first in Europe. Since then, the course has undergone some modifications and improvements, such as the creation of double starts, but on the whole, the course that was born with 9 holes has remained so.
The course is characterised by a panorama of absolute beauty immersed in the Adamello Brenta Nature Park with an enchanting view of the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009.
