The Rifugio Torre di Pisa is the only refuge in the Latemar Group and it takes its name from a nearby rocky spire, which looks like the famous leaning tower of Pisa. It’s a small hut clinging to the rock on Cima Cavignon 2,676 metres above sea level, and is accessed along a path that is also trodden by the sky runners competing in the “Latemar Vertical Kilometer”. The reward for those who get to the top is admission to the magical (and legendary) world of the Latemar with its pinnacles and walls of pale coloured rock.
Walks
The walk up to Forcella dei Campanili takes 1 hour (difficulty E) and rewards with fantastic views. The Forcella is the start of the “Campanili del Latemar” via ferrata, which requires experience and via ferrata kit (1 ½ hours, difficulty EEA). From the Refuge you can also climb Cimòn del Latemàr, the highest peak in the group (2,846 metres), not a particularly difficult ascent, but it requires mountaineering skills.
