Cavalese is located in Val di Fiemme on a natural terrace, with a view of the rugged Lagorai chain. The village is easy to reach, whether by yourself or on public transport. It is about 50 km from the city of Trento and 25 km from the nearest motorway exit, Egna – Ora on the Brennero motorway.
The village is surrounded by a typical Alpine natural landscape: a short distance from the centre, you can immerse yourself in the centuries-old fir trees of the Paneveggio Nature Park, and if you look up, you can let your gaze rest upon the Latemar Dolomite group and the Lagorai chain. Then, strolling through the historic village centre, you cannot fail to admire the historic buildings, including the iconic Renaissance palace which is the headquarters of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, a thousand-year-old institution that protects the people of Fiemme and promotes its environmental and cultural heritage.
If you love skiing, you only need to know that Val di Fiemme is in the Dolomiti Superski area, one of the most famous ski areas in the world, connecting the valley to other Alpine valleys with a single ski pass. Skiing in one of the world’s most famous ski areas
In Val di Fiemme you’ll be skiing at Dolomiti Superski, Italy’s premier ski destination. It features 50 state-of-the-art ski lifts, 110 km of downhill slopes, three fully-equipped snow parks and two long sledging runs.
Cross-country skiing on the slopes of the Latemar
Val di Fiemme is the cradle of cross-country skiing. At the Passo di Lavazè cross-country ski centre there are 85 km of tracks for you to explore, leading through forests and open meadows to the peaks of Latemar, Catinaccio and Corno Bianco.
Sledging on the Gardoné run
Sledging is a ski holiday essential, and in Val di Fiemme you can hurtle down the Gardonè-Predazzo sledging run. An easy slope, accessible using the Predazzo-Gardonè cable car and the Campo Scuola chairlift.

At dawn, you can ski all alone or with just a few others. Ascend on the lift, which opens early for the occasion, and enjoy a delicious breakfast – what a breakfast! – at one of the many mountain refuges of the Val di Fiemme. We call this event the Trentino Ski Sunrise, and it is truly unmissable.
Visit the Paneveggio Nature Park
Near the Paneveggio Nature Park Visitor Centre, there is a place where you can observe magnificent deer. A raised platform helps even the youngest children get a good view of this deer enclosure, with a view taking in the Pale di San Martino.
Visit the Geological Museum of the Dolomites
The MUSE, the Science Museum of Trento, has a branch in Val di Fiemme, in Predazzo. This is the Geological Museum of the Dolomites, with more than 11,000 specimens, including an impressive collection of invertebrate fossils which tell the story of the Dolomites.

Go for a swim, and much more besides – the aquatic centre in Cavalese not only has indoor pools with various temperatures and functions, but also a wellness and beauty centre. There is also a children’s oasis at a temperature of 33 °C.

The historic centre of Cavalese is a bustling, interesting place in every season. Pastry shops, wine bars and restaurants abound in its streets, but if you are visiting Cavalese, be sure to also visit its places of historical value, such as the Civic Tower of San Sebastiano and the Church of San Vigilio.
