10 things to do on Lake Garda
A thousand faces for a thousand experiences to enjoy
Garda Trentino is the northernmost part of Lake Garda. In this portion of the lake, you will find Mediterranean glimpses among Alpine views. Lemon, olive and palm trees, surrounded by mountains, are moved by that wind so dear to windsurfers and sailors from all over the world, the Ora del Garda, which, blowing from the south, mitigates all of Garda Trentino.
Riva del Garda and Torbole sul Garda, both on the Trentino shores of the lake, and *Arco are the main towns. Their beaches, made of grass or white pebbles, are safe and spacious. They feature visitor services and schools not only for those who love water sports, but also for cycling and climbing enthusiasts.
The Garda Trentino area goes beyond the shores of the lake: in fact, it extends up to the Brenta Dolomites and touches the nearby Valle di Ledro and Valle dei Laghi. A territory with a thousand faces, which you can get to know starting from the 10 things to do that we have grouped below.
Visit Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda is the pearl of Lake Garda. Its small historic center has many points of interest, such as the Rocca, the Apponale Tower, the Alto Garda Museum, the Hydroelectric Plant and the Bastion, which can be reached in just 2 minutes from the centre with a brand new lift. The Baroque Church of the Inviolata is also worth a visit.
Take the last stage of the DoGa bike trail
DoGa is a bike trail that connects the Dolomites to Lake Garda. The last stage runs from Terme di Comano, crosses Fiavè, reaching Canale di Tenno first and eventually Riva del Garda all the way down. Bike rental and bike shuttle are available!
Windsurfing in Torbole
Pelèr and Ora are the two winds that ripple Garda Trentino. The regular waves, never too big, are perfect for windsurfing. For a first experience on water, on the board, you can rely on the services and schools of Torbole with peace of mind.
A climb overlooking the lake
Here the advice comes directly from the great Adam Ondra, one of the best climbers of all time. The Czech climber recommends 3 crags to try on the Trentino shores of Lake Garda, which every year host the Rock Master, the International Sport Climbing Master.
Visit Lake Ledro Pile-dwelling Museum
On the shores of Lake Ledro you will find a village dating back 4000 years, and a World Heritage Site to boot. It is the Pile-dwelling Museum in Ledro, the most important pile-dwelling site in all of Europe. The village was rebuilt with huts on stilts, furnished with objects and artefacts from the Bronze Age.
Go along the Busatte Trail
The Busatte Trail is worth trying: 4 km of beauty and charm that descend to Tempesta. 400 steps were built on a steep ridge overlooking the lake to overcome the steepest points. Scary!
Relax at Terme di Comano
A pleasant oasis of relaxation just a few km from Lake Garda. It’s Terme di Comano, which, in addition to being an excellent Dermatological Centre, offers beauty treatments and wellness activities in nature, such as meditation and forest therapy.
Go for a walk among Italy’s most Beautiful Villages
Rango and Canale di Tenno are two of Italy’s most Beautiful Villages located in Garda Trentino. Both charming and rich in history, they are jewels to visit in every season, even more in the month of December when they become alight and wrapped in the typical scents of Christmas Markets.
Reach Punta Larici
This excursion is one of the most popular in Garda Trentino. Starting from Pregasina, in just over an hour, you can reach Punta Larici, a rock spur overlooking the lake, which is an exceptional balcony over the whole of Lake Garda.
Taste some Vino Santo
Vino Santo is a Trentino wine, a Slow Food Listed Product. It comes from Nosiola grapes of Valle dei Laghi and is dried by the constant ventilation guaranteed by the typical Garda wind, the Ora. To be tasted and discovered in the brand new Casa Caveau Vino Santo wine museum, in Padergnone.
