A six hundred kilometre-long itinerary, from Passo del Tonale to the Marmolada, that connects the First World War sites of the Trentino front. As well as representing an important testament to the so-called White War - the war fought in the mountains during WWI - the Path of Peace also offers an opportunity to discover Trentino's natural beauty, its mountains, and to experience the commitment and perseverance required to conquer them.
The route is divided into seven stages and follows a network of hiking trails that span across Trentino. The departure point is Passo del Tonale, a mountain pass surrounded by the icy panoramas of the Presena Glacier. Taking over thirty days to complete, the Path of Peace travels through mountains, forests and bubbling streams to end at the Marmolada Glacier in Val di Fassa.
The route described here on VisitTrentino begins from the third stage onwards, leaving out the first two stages: Tonale-Adamello and Val Rendena, Val Giudicarie and Val di Concei.
These initial stages of the Path of Peace pass through very interesting landscapes but require a high level of experience with alpine terrain and specific equipment. If you are interested in hiking these first two sections, we highly recommend that you contact the Alpine Guides in Val di Sole and Campiglio.
For information, these first two sections are described below; for more details, visit the Trentino Grande Guerra website.
