Splendid panoramas and delicious food, the perfect way to celebrate spring

Up in the mountains, above 2,000 metres, the snow hasn’t completely melted yet and most mountain huts remain closed until summer. At lower altitudes however, it’s already possible to take advantage of the longer days and warmer temperatures for pleasant walks outdoors in the fresh air.

So here are 5 itineraries and just as many “Rifugi” or mountain huts that are open in spring, where you can relax in the sun and enjoy some tasty mountain cuisine, surrounded by magnificent panoramas.

PS: A little advice... Since these are lodges in the mountains, weather conditions can impact their opening hours and availability. This is why we recommend that you always contact the lodge before departure, to make sure it is open.

Rifugio Serot

The Rifugio Malga Kraun, Rotaliana plain

Spring is probably the best time to discover the Monte of Mezzocorona, with its meadows and woods of beech and fir trees draped in dazzling green. In Spring, after having visited the themed trail “The Magic of the Woods” with its sculptures, you can take a break at the Rifugio Malga Kraun, and try some of the local cuisine based on goulash, pork shins, polenta, barley risotto and delicious homemade desserts.

#5

The Malga Campo mountain farmhouse, Alpe Cimbra

Near the town of Luserna, the Malga Campo farmhouse can be reached in 20 minutes on foot along a forest road. You can also choose to take the “Sentiero dell’Immaginario” (The Trail of Fantasy) that takes about two hours and guarantees great fun for the whole family as you search for the characters of local myths and legends amongst the trees. For a romantic break, it’s also possible to stay in one of the 3 cosy rooms available.
