The Champions of the US Ski Team in Folgaria

Ski where American athletes train to prepare for the World Cup

In the south-east of Trentino, just 20 km from the nearest motorway exit, lies Alpe Cimbra, one of the largest mountain pastures in Europe. Centuries-old woods and wide meadows are the natural setting of many slopes within everyone’s reach. The Alpe Cimbra – Folgaria Ski Area, the most important ski district in the Trentino Prealps, part of the Skirama Dolomiti ski district, offers more than 100 km across 66 slopes for Alpine skiing, a variety of slopes that includes blue, red and the most feared black slopes.

The daring descents and splendid walls of this ski area have been attracting the US Men’s National Alpine Skiing Team for many years. In the winter period, in the heart of the competitive season, the Alpe Cimbra – Folgaria Ski Area hosts US athletes on the Salizzona and on the Agonistica slopes, where the Team can find the right conditions to best prepare for the major World Cup events. The technical attributes and quality of the slopes, the organization and Trentino-style hospitality made the US Ski Team say, again last year, ‘Four more years’.  If you come to Folgaria during the upcoming 2023-2024 winter season, you may come across the Stars and Stripes athletes running, plowing and whizzing on the slopes of Alpe Cimbra.

US Ski Team a Folgaria

If you love skiing, it comes naturally to us to recommend the Folgaria Ski Area. The area is part of the Skirama Dolomiti ski district with almost 400 km of slopes, 150 ski lifts and 8 resorts, all accessible with a single ski pass. The innovative scheduled snow system covers the entire ski area and guarantees, in all weather conditions, perfect skiing from December to April.

The wide expanses of snow-covered pastures, bordered by fir forests, host two well-equipped cross-country centres, Millegrobbe and Alpe di Folgaria-Coe, with loops of different lengths, from easy to competitive, FISI-approved for national and international competitions.

On Alpe Cimbra you can have fun even without skis on your feet. The silent and relaxed woods are ideal for walking or, if the snow has just fallen, snowshoeing. With a fat-bike, an evolution of the mountain bike with fat tires, you float on the snow, pedaling safely through fir and larch trees. Or sliding on skates on the large indoor slope of Palafolgaria and the open-air plate near Lake Lavarone. And the children will have a blast in the Baby Parks or along the sled runs.
