What are Cultural Trails?
Itineraries to discover Trentino from another perspective
What is crazidèl? Who was Fortunato Depero? Who built the Great War forts? Who were the prince-bishops? What are the Dolomites made of? To create our Cultural Trails we started from 5 questions on very different topics: five thematic itineraries that help you discover Trentino by visiting museums, castles, war forts or ancient mills.
We have selected 5 themes: popular traditions, modern and contemporary art, history and territory, ancient art and history, science and nature. For each of them we have selected itineraries through the places of culture that best allow visitors to learn more about a given topic.
Our 5 itineraries are suitable for all ages; they are covered over several days, taking the city of Trento as a reference point. You can choose to cover all the stages of each itinerary, or use just a couple of them for a short trip out of town. You can mix the stages of different thematic trails, or select only the theme that intrigues you the most. Take them as ideas that allow you to discover Trentino in an unusual way, along itineraries that do not go through woods and mountains, but that lead you through museums, castles and places to discover.

Modern and Contemporary Art Cultural
This trail starts from the Mart of Rovereto, the famous museum of modern and contemporary art, not far from Trento, and then leads you to the shores of Lake Garda, high up in the mountains of Val di Fiemme and, finally, to Valsugana, to admire an open-air art gallery where works blend with nature.
Ancient History and Art Cultural Trail
The trail starts from the mighty walls of the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento, and then leads you to discover some of the most famous Trentino castles: Castel Beseno, Castel Thun, Castel Stenico, Castel Caldes, up to the halls of the Magnificent Community Palace, in Val di Fiemme
Science and Nature Cultural Trail
This trail starts from one of the most famous museums in Trentino: the MUSE of Trento. The large and innovative natural science museum designed by Renzo Piano is the basis of an itinerary that takes you to Rovereto, on the shores of Lake Ledro and in Val di Fiemme, to discover the heart of the Dolomites.
Popular Traditions Cultural Trail
The trail starts from the village of San Michele all’Adige, a short distance from Trento, where the impressive Museum of Uses and Customs of the Trentino people is located. This itinerary is longer than the others, passing through ancient homes, mills and huts, to capture the soul of the people of Trentino.
History and Territory Cultural Trail
A trail that speaks of Trentino and its history, deeply intertwined with that of Italy and Europe. The itinerary starts from Trento, in a very particular museum, housed in a former road tunnel, to arrive in eastern Trentino, in an old mine. The trail includes visits to WWI forts, hydroelectric power plants and villages at the foot of the mountains.
