Buonconsiglio Castle Museum
Buonconsiglio castle is one of Trento’s best-known buildings and one of the finest monumental sites in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. This beautiful edifice is renowned for its historic links with the Council of Trent and as the seat of the prince-bishops, lords of Trento, until 1803. It gained a sad notoriety during World War I, when its courtyard became the scene for the execution of Italian patriot Cesare Battisti, an Irredentist who advocated the incorporation of Trentino into Italy. Now its halls house an extensive art and archaeology collection and a programme of major exhibitions.
