'I Suoni delle Dolomiti' is back – here’s what’s new

A new way to attend, a new website and new dates but the same spirit as ever

As the years go by, it’s good to freshen up a few things – while staying true to yourself, of course. Just like when you look in the mirror and feel inspired to try something new. That’s more or less what’s happened with the 'I Suoni delle Dolomiti'. After 26 happy years and an enforced break in 2020, we’re back this summer with one or two changes.

As always, the festival is about the magic that happens when music meets nature. A sensitive, sustainable celebration of the perfect marriage between these two universal languages on the great open stage of the Trentino Dolomites, with no barriers to keep musicians and audiences apart. So while the heart of the festival is still very much in the right place, you’ll notice one or two logistical differences – like the new ways to attend, the website and especially the dates.

The 'I Suoni delle Dolomiti' festival up in the Trentino mountains is back – and here’s what’s new for 2021

How it works this year

The 'I Suoni delle Dolomiti' festival has its boots on again ready for summer 2021. We’re all set to strike out for the stages in the mountains, up on the green carpet where the crags meet the sky. The verdant open spaces of the Dolomites make an ideal setting for a safe event – and with a few extra precautions, it will be even more enjoyable. The concerts are still free of charge, but this year there are new ways to attend. Here is all the information you need.

New dates!

This year, the 'I Suoni delle Dolomiti' comes later in the calendar. The events run from 23 August to 24 September, from summer sun to autumn colour. The programme is set to be as varied and spectacular as ever, with a host of special guests to look forward to.

We made this change to encourage visitors to discover our mountains outside the peak season, when the paths and pastures are already rather busy. It’s a decision that reflects the festival’s green spirit and the sustainability message we always look to promote.

This sensitivity to eco issues affecting the mountains (and indeed the planet as a whole) is a big part of our special launch event for the highly anticipated 2021 festival season. The curtain-raiser is on 15 July at 12 noon up on Lavazè plateau in the Val di Fiemme.

This area is a testament to the huge efforts made to restore the increasingly fragile balance between humans and nature after the damage wreaked by Storm Vaia in 2018. Recovery work began at dawn the next day. People joined forces, supported by projects like the Trentino Tree Agreement and inspired by their knowledge and experience of the symbiotic bond between people and the environment. This vital rapport is as old as the hills, and it remains a distinctive feature of the Alps.

A new website

Another thing that’s changed is the 'I Suoni delle Dolomiti' website: it’s now part of visittrentino.info. So as you browse what’s on at the festival, you can also discover lots more about what our region has to offer. There’ll be our insider tips on places to visit, experiences not to miss, and special offers galore.

If you’re already a festival regular, fear not – you’ll find your way around in no time, as we’ve deliberately kept the structure the same. And if you’re new to the Sounds of the Dolomites, this dedicated section will prove an easy-to-browse mine of useful info. All you have to do is tap on the various headings to find all the details you need and some interesting related content too.

Any queries? Then head over to our social-media channels (facebook, instagram) and ask away!

More of those familiar favourites

Great stages, natural theatres, well-marked paths and safe facilities – we’ve got it all covered again this year. We’re working away with our festival partners and the whole Trentino region to make the event a success for everyone from the audiences and artists to the organisers and Mother Nature herself. That means taking care of the environment and making a special effort to keep everyone safe and well in these difficult times that we all hope will be behind us soon.

Which is why we’re asking everyone to do their bit. If we all follow the official health precautions and the simple rules for happy coexistence in the mountains, we can all enjoy the return of culture to the Dolomites in a spirit of mutual respect and peace of mind.
