From the castle to the mountain - outward

Thematic route inspired by the centuries-old disputes between the Magnifica Comunità di Folgaria and the Trapp Counts, feudal lords of Castel Beseno, the great manor located at the mouth of the Rio Cavallo Rosspach valley. Castel Beseno, the destination of the route, is the largest castle in Trentino Alto Adige and the venue for events and historical re-enactments.

The route consists of a long descent from the high plateau to the valley floor, running for long stretches along what was once the ancient medieval viabialità. Along the route, points of interest include the 16th century church of San Valentino, the villages of Mezzomonte di sopra and Mezzomonte di sotto, the Ponte di Folgaria farmstead, the Rio Cavallo - Rosspach stream and, of course, the castle. The destination is therefore Beseno castle (with permanent exhibitions), located on the hill of the same name. There are two possibilities for the return journey: by bus (Rovereto - Folgaria line, see timetables at: www.ttesercizio.it) with a bus stop in the village of Dietrobeseno below) or on foot (demanding), following the return route on the orographic left side of the valley, touching on the villages of Ondertol and Guardia.
