Centro della fondazione Stava 1985 Onlus
On 19th July 1985, the failure of the tailing dams of the Prestavèl fluorite mine gave rise to a mud flow which ran over the Stava valley and caused the loss of 268 lives, as well as vast material and environmental destruction. The Stava 1985 Foundation (charity) pursues the goal of “active memory” to disseminate knowledge on the origin, causes and responsibilities of the failure. The Foundation and the Information Centre are located in Stava, close to Tesero, along the road leading to Pampeago. At the Information Centre, you can watch the “Stava 19th July”, a short film and follow the pathway illustrating the history of the Prestavèl mine and mineral enrichment facility, the construction and building up of the tailing dams, the collapse of 19th July 1985, the causes and legal responsibilities for the collapse and the subsequent reconstructions in the Stava Valley.
From the Information Centre starts the Remembrance footpath.
Ask for the texts of the pathway in English and to watch the film in English.
